These are just a few of the moments that will take place within our future regional Smelter City Recreation Complex (SCRC) in Anaconda. We need a vibrant space where people of all ages can gather to enjoy the benefits of recreation, to exercise, to learn, and to spend time with family and friends.
To create, operate, and support a community-focused recreational facility. The future SCRC will include various indoor and outdoor spaces that will serve as a community center, recreation center, and aquatic center where fitness, wellness, sports, social, and lifelong-learning activities take place. Our programs will enrich mind, body, spirit, and community in Anaconda (Montana) and surrounding areas.
This grassroots effort was initially affiliated with and championed by the Anaconda Community Foundation. Smelter City Recreation Complex incorporated in the State of Montana on June 29, 2016. On July 19, 2016, the organization gained its IRS 501(c)(3) status.
Thanks 100% to community donations, the project completed an initial concept study, including conceptual drawings and construction-cost estimates for the facility. Financial forecasting for the facility was also done in 2016. Without a doubt, a state-of-the-art, multi-million-dollar, 75,000-sq.ft. complex will be expensive to build and operate. But, we know it can be done. Rewards from this effort will cascade in countless ways into Anaconda’s future. Individuals will reach personal goals, jobs will be created, visitors will have another reason to visit, and social capital will build in the community. “A community that plays together will stay together.”
