Race Day Details for the Smelter City Scamper

Updated: Aug 4, 2021

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to run the Scamper! (If you have yet to do so, it is not too late). We are narrowing in on race day and the Smelter City Recreation Complex team is excited to welcome you! Here are a few important details that will ensure you have a successful run and experience.

REGISTRATION:

All participants are required to pre-register for the Scamper. For insurance purposes, this is very important. This includes the 8 and under children running in the Kinder Sprint that has free admission. To register, click here.

PACKET PICK-UP:

All participants are encouraged to pick up their packets the day before the run. Packets will include: a free Scamper buff, your race bib with timing chip, sunglasses, koozies, discount coupons to local businesses, sunscreen, energy bars, running gels, fizz packets, and more! 8 and under children are able to participate in the kid run free of charge if they have registered in advance. They will also receive a packet; however theirs will not include a buff, unless it was added on in their registration check-out process.

Packet pick-ups will occur:

Friday, August 6 from 3pm - 7pm at Pintler's Portal Hostel / 5518 Designs

218 W Park St, Anaconda MT 59711

(Please be mindful of parking that is dedicated to our neighbors. We have a few spots out front, and there are numerous parking spots within a block or two of the surrounding streets.)

Saturday August 7 from 6:30am - 10am at the start line.

3rd & Main street, Anaconda MT 59711

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

The morning of the race, head to Anaconda's Kennedy Commons and you will see our inflatable start/finish line at 4th & Main.

7:30am - Half Marathon start time

8:30am - 5K and 10K start time

10am - 8 and under Kinder Sprint start time

10:30am - Awards Ceremony

10:30am - Food trucks will be set up in the Kennedy Commons

1pm - Brewfest begins in the Kennedy Commons

PARKING:

There will not be parking immediately surrounding the Kennedy Commons. This will be used for vendors and some of the streets will be closed for the race and other festivities. A large parking area should be available behind the Elks Lodge (116 E. 3rd Street), and on the neighboring streets.

RACE ROUTES:

Please review the below race routes prior to race day. Our original race routes were adjusted slightly to avoid road construction on 3rd street. There will be excellent signage and volunteers directing runners. Each race will have a volunteer on bicycle leading the front runner to ensure there is no course confusion. And there will be traffic controllers at intersections. Water/aid stations will be placed every two miles along each race route.

RESTROOMS:

There will be porta potties placed near the start/finish line. There are also public restrooms available in 2 locations within Washoe Park which all courses pass by. The first location is off of Pennsylvania Ave, just west of the tennis courts and children's playground. The second location is off of Washoe Park Rd, just west of the sand volleyball courts.

COVID-19 CONCERNS:

CDC guidelines recommend that fully vaccinated people continue to take these COVID-19 precautions when in public, when visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple other households, and when around unvaccinated people who are at high risk of getting severely ill from COVID-19:

  • Wear a well-fitted mask (use your Scamper buff as necessary)

  • Allow for 6 feet of social distancing where possible

  • Do not attend or participate in the Scamper if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms

The race will have staggered start times to reduce congestion. The Scamper will retain registration data for a minimum of 28 days after race day to assist with contact tracing if necessary.

AIR QUALITY:

Western Montana has been experiencing forest fires in recent weeks which has left some smoke in the air. Our nearest Air Monitoring Station is in Butte, where today's (July 26) average AQI measured 43.3 µg/m3. Data shows that air quality is better in the morning (when the Scamper will be hosted), and is ranked at a "Moderate" level. The Scamper will be hosted regardless, but runners can review the Montana DEQ website for updated data as we near race day.

LODGING OPTIONS:

Pintler's Portal Hostel / 5518 Designs (walkable to start line)

Marcus Daly Motel (walkable to start line)

Hickory House Inn (walkable to start line)
